The latest Volta Basin Flood Bulletin indicates that river levels across parts of the Volta Basin in Ghana are expected to rise over the next five (5) days. In addition, the anticipated spillage of the Bagre Dam could further increase the risk of flooding in some downstream communities.
Communities advised to remain vigilant include:
1. Yarugu on the White Volta, as well as Sapeliga, Talensi and Nabdam, where rising river levels combined with the anticipated Bagre Dam spillage may increase flood risk.
2. Nangodi on the Red Volta, where sharp rises in river levels are expected.
3. Lawra on the Black Volta, where river levels are also forecast to rise.
HYDRO advises residents living near rivers and flood-prone areas to:
✅ Stay informed through official weather and flood updates.
✅ Avoid crossing swollen rivers and streams.
✅ Move valuables to higher ground where necessary.
✅ Follow all instructions from local authorities if conditions worsen.
