Overview

The Hydrology Unit of the Ghana Hydrological Authority (HYDRO) is responsible for the collection, analysis, and management of hydrological data to support water resources planning, flood risk management, and national development. The Unit plays a central role in establishing and maintaining a nationwide hydrological observation network across rivers and streams in Ghana.

Through continuous monitoring of water levels, streamflow, and other hydrological parameters, the Unit provides critical information for water supply systems, irrigation schemes, hydropower generation, and environmental management. It also leads the development and implementation of Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) to enhance preparedness and reduce the impact of flooding across vulnerable communities.
